Wellness

Providing students with the knowledge and skills to establish healthy habits will impact their lives in ways that are both immediate and long lasting. In Tahoma, our focus is on supporting students to make informed and thoughtful decisions in a variety of situations including health and wellness. We label this in one of our Future Ready Skills as being a Responsible Decision Maker. We hold a multi-dimensional view of wellness that we build on through our curriculum and activities with staff, students, and the community. Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of, and making choices toward, a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth.

Wellness includes:

  • Understanding the benefits and establishing habits for regular physical activity and healthy eating habits

  • Promotion of risk avoidance and stress reduction to benefit overall mental and physical health and wellness

  • Understanding of how our bodies and minds work, supporting personal responsibility, self-control, self-advocacy and holding a growth mindset

  • Contributing to our environment and community, building healthy spaces and positive social networks

  • Enrichment of life through work, and its interconnectedness to healthy living and playing
