Health and Physical Fitness

Tahoma Health and Fitness is committed to providing safe and supportive opportunities for every student to gain the knowledge and skills to value and engage in a lifetime of personal wellness.

Elementary

Our elementary health and fitness program has students meeting three days per week with a health and fitness specialist.

Middle Level

Our middle level health and fitness program includes a required full year of health and fitnes at grade 6.  At grades 7 and 8 there is a semester of required health and fitness.  In the other semester, students have a wide variety of elective choices including health and fitness options.  In all classes there is an integrated thread with health concepts forming the core of the curriculum within each class.

High School

At high school 2.0 credits of health and fitness are required for graduation.  Of these credits 0.5 must be in health.  In Tahoma our foundations class is typically taken by students in their freshman year.  This is a year-long integrated health and physical education course and students complete the year fullfilling health requirement and earn a full 1.0 credit in health and fitness.

In the foundations class, students build a foundation for lifelong wellness by acquiring and developing knowledge, strategies, and transferable skills necessary for adopting and maintaining a healthy lifestyle throughout their lives. Themes of Responsible Decision-Maker and Goal Setting run through the course. After completion of the foundations class students can decide if they want to pursue strands that focus on outdoor activities, strength and conditioning, or sports.
