Referral Procedures


The referral process in the Tahoma School District complies with the Washington State legislation  (WAC 392-170-076)

All grade 2 students will be screened for highly capable services. No referral necessary.

The 2022-2023 highly capable referral window for all current grades, K-1 and 3-7 will be open through December 31, 2022.  Referrals submitted after December 31st, will still be accepted but may not be considered for evaluation until the 2023-2024 school year for services that would start in the 2024-2025 school year.

Middle School students will be assessed with the CogAT and ITBS tests appropriate for their current grade.
The service model is an English Language Arts & Social Studies block class
for each grade made up entirely of highly capable students.
