Tahoma School District (TSD) Assistant Superintendent and Director of Finance Lori Cloud announced that she is retiring after the 2022-23 school year. Next school year, Cloud’s last with TSD, will be her 21st with the district.

“Tahoma has been my home for a long time,” Cloud said. “I’ve been blessed to serve our students, staff and community as our district has grown into nine amazing and unique schools. In my role, I’ve seen firsthand how devoted our stakeholders are to putting students in the best position to succeed, and how our incredible students take advantage of the resources available to them. Tahoma is a truly special place because of the people who are committed to making it a top tier district.”

Cloud joined TSD in 2002 as Director of Finance & Operations. During her tenure, she has been instrumental in optimizing the district’s budget. In 2013, Cloud facilitated the use of TSD’s $195M voter-approved bond, which funded construction of Tahoma High School. TSD planned to upgrade Lake Wilderness Elementary School (LWES) with a portion of the bond funds, and responsible spending allowed for a complete rebuild of LWES.

Cloud also oversees TSD’s use of voter-approved levy funds, which supplement programs and staff that are not fully funded by Washington state. This includes athletics, arts and other extracurricular activities, critical staff like nurses and specialists, and classroom resources like Chromebooks and other technology to continue providing TSD students with state-of-the-art learning.

“Each of our schools is warm, safe and dry, and they’re filled with countless opportunities to ensure our students are Future Ready,” said Superintendent Mike Hanson. “Lori has been at the heart of providing that learning environment for many years. We’ve been extremely fortunate to have her in that role.”

In addition to her district responsibilities, Cloud is an active community member. She is the Maple Valley-Black Diamond Chamber of Commerce treasurer, and she is a member of the City of Maple Valley Economic Development Committee.

Cloud will continue to serve as Asst. Superintendent and Dir. of Finance through next school year. In addition to overseeing finance, she also supports food services, technology, maintenance, operations, transportation, the custodial dept. and the Extended Enrichment Program (EEP). TSD has not yet announced a replacement.
