TSD receives 6th straight clean financial audit

Tahoma School District's Financial Services Dept. Receives Sixth Consecutive Clean Financial Audit
Posted on 07/19/2022

The Washington State Auditor's annual review of Tahoma School District's finances and accountability shows that the district was in full compliance with no negative findings for the 2020-2021 school year. This marks Tahoma’s sixth consecutive year with a clean audit, one of the longest periods of any King County school district.

"There were no material misstatements in the financial statements” according to a letter to the district from Matt Hankins, Assistant Audit Manager. The audit was divided into two parts: Tahoma's financial statements and compliance with federal laws and regulations; and independent accountability in eight specific areas that included: planning procedures, the open public meetings act (OPMA), financial condition, local revenue sub-fund, professional learning, supplemental contracts, payroll direct deposits, and enrollment.

Hankins complimented district representatives, including Superintendent Mike Hanson, Assistant Superintendent Lori Cloud, and Chief Accountant Bill Hernandez for "cooperation and timely response to our requests during the audit. We appreciate the District’s commitment to fiscal accountability and accurate financial reporting.” School Board Vice President Pete Miller was in attendance for the exit conference and thanked both the audit team and the district finance department for their hard work throughout the five-month audit process.

"Tahoma truly values its stewardship of our community's investment," said Hernandez. "It is an annual goal of ours to receive a clean financial audit, and we're proud to have accomplished that for a sixth-straight fiscal year."
