⬜ My student has tested positive for COVID-19 or is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Who should I contact?

Don't send your student to school. If it is a school day, call the attendance office at your student's school to inform them of your student's absence. Please also call 425-413-3280 or email TSD-COVIDResponse@TahomaSD.us to receive accurate information and next steps (isolation dates, recommended testing etc.) for your student and family.

If your student is symptomatic, please refer to these flowcharts from the Washington State Dept. of Health to determine when they can return to school. (These flowcharts are in effect as of March 12, 2022)

Where can I get a COVID-19 test for my student, child or myself?

Although the district no longer operates its own COVID-19 testing site, there are plenty of options for finding a COVID-19 test for you and your family. 

If you or your student is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home and refer to this flowchart to determine next steps. In instances where a negative test result is required to return to school, the district accepts at-home rapid antigen test results for students and staff, which must be accompanied by the district-approved attestation form. If you need an attestation form, please contact your school nurse.

At-home tests can be obtained for free through Washington State's "Say Yes! COVID Test" website or through the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services at covidtests.gov. Tests can also be purchased over-the-counter at a local retail pharmacy.

If you are traveling abroad or need a PCR test for any reason, you can use one of King County's free testing sites, click here. Please note, appointments at these sites are highly recommended and often required.

You may also contact your healthcare provider to ask about receiving a COVID-19 test.

 How will my student's learning be affected if they are ill or need to quarantine?

We always want to support our students, families and staff during times of illness. With COVID-19, we anticipate supporting students for time out of class because of illness, asymptomatic positive cases and quarantines due to exposure. This document provides our shared goals and expectations for staff and students if a student is out of school for any of those reasons. Click here to view.

Grades K-5: If elementary students are only going to be out for a day or two, teachers will be able to get them caught up fairly easily once they return. In this case, parents do not need to arrange to pick up materials from school. Teachers may request that families pick up materials from school for absences that last more than a few days. Grades 6-12: In general, students have two days for every day they are absent to make up work. However, when possible, we want students who are healthy and able to keep up with schoolwork throughout their quarantine so they are able to step right back into your classes with minimal disruption. ⬜ Is Tahoma School District adhering to the Washington State Dept. of Health and Public Health - Seattle & King Co. COVID-19 requirements for K-12 schools?

Yes. Washington state K-12 schools must follow the requirements from the Washington State Dept. of Health and their local health jurisdiction (Public Health - Seattle & King Co). To view the Dept. of Health requirements, CLICK HERE.
